Sainsbury has been negative every year for last decade since capex so high. Morrisons much superior on that metric recently.

Gerry "Toff, I dont know where you got those figures but you have MRW on a 5. Indeed the yield figure is nonsense. It very much reads like someone who bet on red when the answer came up black. How about pension deficit as a fundamental yardstick?

Or percentage of freehold properties? What about free cash flow? Why would MRW be particularly impacted by a falling pound. Surely SBRY with its higher non-food will suffer import costs more than a company which imports less. There is no mention of the MRW food manufacturing capabilities.

If you make a lot of your own food you don't pay a carlson wagonlit travel work from home and you don't import as much.

That part of the business alone was mooted to be worth 1. Without that edge from manufacture you don't get the Amazon tie-up. I would have thought SBRY management may be a little distracted ecole du forex.fr the core food retail bit what with Argos and now NISA. Toff, I dont know where you got those figures but you have MRW on a 5.

I think those are way out as I have it just over a couple of percent but if that is wrong what about the others? I suspect customers having in effect, less money what is the meaning of forex reserve than FX rates for MRW will affect the outcome on profits.

Yes things are getting harder, for most retailers but I haven't seen anything to date that says profit warning but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. Morrison has a higher market capital than Sainsbury. How can that be when every fundamental yardstick bar none show that Sainsbury are far superior.

It's my view the weak pound will impact on Morrison and a profit warning is in the offing. The Morrison dog trades on close to double the valuation as Sainsbury.

The market makers exploit slim volumes to keep the shareprice unrealistically high.

Sainsbury would should i buy morrisons shares an infinitely better takeover target for Amazon. Morrisons SP is already priced well over takeover valuation as it is. I envision a day when a major uk supermarket will fail and Morrison will become a casualty of intense competition. I just cannot imagine Amazon wanting to enter mainstream food retailing in the U.

The competition is intense, profit margins are tiny and those tiny margins are under pressure from a falling pound. I'm fully expecting a profit warning from Morrison before the next results update. If there is any truth in Amazon's interest, investors, both institutional and private, should hold out for a decent price.

A nationwide chain of stores is one aspect, but with Morrisons' abattoirs, meat processing plants, fruit and vegetable packing depots, flower packing business, the fish processing plant at Grimsby, and the Rathbone bakeries as an in-house supply chain just think what Amazon could do online.

Should you still be buying into supermarket shares? - Telegraph

Furthermore with Andrew Higginson and Dave Potts they get two managers who seem to know what they are doing; quite rare in these days of boardroom gadflies. I have just heard from a reliable source that Amazon may have its sights set on Morrisons to take its stores nation wide.
