Join Date Dec Posts I've been selling a few scrap lots on the bay recently, and as I was looking through some of the people who bought my lots I realized all they ever did on the bay was buy scrap gold either at or very very close to spot. I asked a few of them what they did with it and they said they melted the jewelry and resold it.

My questions to you guys is, how in the world can someone make any kind of money selling melted gold when they pay so close to spot?

It may have been just a coincidence from rough handling, but it also may have been the sellers were taking tiny chucks out of each coin, and if you take of these chunks you'll have enough pilfered gold for a new coin?
