I'll try to keep this up to date now with my experiences with the rifle, in case others are interested in hearing my mileage with the Savage MKII FVSR. Hey Everyone - I'm looking to upgrade my recently acquired MKII FV-SR to include the Boyds Tacticool stock. Which brings me here: Do I need anything else?

Also - Just for good measure, here's the gun as it sits right now.

Rhineland arms

I just changed out the scope rings yesterday to low rings and added an A2 flash hider just because. It's still wearing the Vortex x Can't wait to get it finished up! My stock is the Boyd's Pro Varmint which you and I call the Tacticool black textured finish. I love this stock!

Order straight from Boyds. In my quest for accuracy, I added the metal bottom, and since I was ordering from DIP, I went ahead and got the trigger guard with the metal bottom as a package. There is a specific kit that DIP sells for your gun with a Boyd's Tacticool stock. Beautiful fit, be sure to torque to 14 INCH pounds with your action screws. DIP offers a Boyd's Tacticool stock with a metal bottom and trigger guard kit all together. Order straight from DIP. Also, as far as other bolt on mods go, I changed out my Savage scope base to DIP's scope base.

This is an addition that is an elective, but my Savage base hit my scope's front bell and that was not to my liking. The DIP mount worked well with adequate clearance. This is not part of your question, but I bore polished lapped my gun to squeeze all I could get out of the gun's accuracy prior to glass bedding the stock which I have not done yet.

I may be getting too far ahead of you here, so make a post sometime if you want to know about lapping your barrel. You may also want to smooth out your trigger, so again, holler if you need advice and options.

Now please don't get fussy with me for making this comment BUT, it all depends if you want accuracy or just punching holes in empty coke cans on a stump. I've pretty much set my heart on submitting an order directly through DIP for both. The metal parts through DIP seem to be a quality add-on. I may also bump this post up once I am ready to hear about the bore polish you did. I just drug out the biggest box of 22's I had in order to bump the rifle off the ground for the picture.

I'll use Eley or some quality CCI rounds for precision work. Anyone try crowning the muzzle? I did all mine, haven't tried it yet. I finally went ahead and got one of the FAT Wrenches today as well.

I have been putting this off for awhile since they're somewhat pricey. I know it'll be incredibly useful though, just had to bite the bullet and buy one. Can't wait to use it soon. But that's the only gun i've ever done that to. Post some pics of how yours turned out from the muzzle end I would say that for us "tinkerers", a Fatwrench is a must have tool! Of course I had done extensive testing to find the diet it likes. I have all kinds of pieces of boxes of ammo sitting around from testing.

I say I'll not use it again THEN I'll buy ANOTHER gun and start the ammo test all over again. I need to ask myself how many guns is enough? FWIW my BTV shot best with just about any sub-sonic ammo, especially the SSHP loads from Remington, Winchester, and CCI. Of course, more "match like" ammo SK, Wolf, etc were good too, with most accuracy improvements coming from fewer fliers.

Y In my quest for accuracy, I added the metal bottom, and since I was ordering from DIP, I went ahead and got the trigger guard with the metal bottom as a package.

Yes DIP shipping is really fast If DIP has the whole kit Tacticool stock, metal bottom and trigger guard I would surely go that route. Less expensive considering shipping to buy from one source instead of two.

When you get phase I finished, hit me up and I'll give you some food for thought for phase II of your mods. And thank heavens you threw the word" Eley" out there so I can rest easy tonight Wheeler Fat Wrench I finally went ahead and got one of the FAT Wrenches today as well.
